Gycolic Acid is an AHA (alpha hydroxy acid), which means its sole purpose is to exfoliate the skin. Unlike its physical counterparts (face scrubs), gycolic acid exfoliates the top layer of the skin to reveal a natural glow without the irritation that occurs when vigorously scrubbing the skin. With continued use this toner can also improve skin texture. Since this is a direct acid, it is to be used with grave caution and you must follow the instructions carefully. This product should only be used in the PM and less is more when it comes to direct acids, you don’t need to use it more than a few times per week.
PH: 3.5-3.7 Purpose: improve skin texture and exfoliate Use: PM
A high-strength vitamin and mineral blemish serum. This product is designed to reduce the appearance of blemishes and irregular tone of the skin. The serum itself has a thin texture that is easily spreadable, and does not dry sticky or leave any sort of residue. It also sits well underneath make-up meaning you can use this in your AM and PM routines.
PH: 5.5-6.5 Purpose: reduce appearance of blemishes Use: AM and/or PM
Do you constantly wake with puffy and highly pigmented eyes? Look no further than The Ordinary’s Caffeine Solution. This product is light in texture and has a yellow tint. It’s easy to spread and massage into the contours of your eye area. You do not need to use a lot of product for it to work since it has an extremely high 5% concentration of caffeine. Almost instantly your eyes will look brighter and you’ll be face up against the mirror trying to figure out how the puffiness completely disappeared.
PH: 4.5-5 Purpose: reduce puffiness and pigmentation Use: AM and/or PM
If you’re in need of a product that will even out skin texture and brighten your complexion, then you must try Azeliac Acid Suspension 10%. This product has a creamy texture and spreads evenly across target areas. You don’t need to use this on your entire face, just target your problem areas. It does not sit well underneath make-up and can begin to flake, so it’s best only used in the PM if you are going to use any other products than moisturisers after this step.
PH: 4-5 Purpose: Even skin texture and brighten complexion Use: PM
No matter what your skin type is or what problem areas you have, everybody must include a moisturiser for the AM and PM. The best thing about this moisturiser is it doesn’t have a long ingredients list of big no-nos. Some moisturisers are packed full of sulphates and alcohol components, which draw moisture out of the skin. This product contains 11 amino acids that support and protect the skins natural barrier. It has a fairly light texture which makes it perfect for day or night. It’s also non-greasy and can be worn without any problems underneath make-up should you wish to.
PH: 6.5-7 Purpose: Moisturise Use: AM and/or PM
This Amazonian clay Salicylic acid mask helps draw out impurities and can deal with stubborn blackheads. It also targets dull skin tone and textural irregularities. Salicylic acid is an effective ingredient for clearing dead skin that can otherwise begin to clog pores. This mask really does get the job done and provides the improvements it advertises. Sometimes clay masks are not actually full of any active ingredients and so can leave us feeling a little hopeless, but you can put your faith in The Ordinary’s Salicylic Acid 2% Masque!
PH: 3.5-4.5 Purpose: target dull skin and purify pores Use: PM
This highly concentrated acid mask is intended to exfoliate and clear pore congestion. AHA helps exfoliate the skin and gently removes the topmost surface area to unveil a brighter complexion. BHA (beta hydroxy acid) also exfoliates the skin, but can delve deeper into pores and clear any dead skin or sebum. Since direct acids can cause minor irritation, The Ordinary have infused this formula with Tasmanian Pepperberry derivative. This product is advised to only be used by experienced acid users, for full usage instructions check The Ordinary’s advise.
PH: 3.5-3.7 Purpose: exfoliate and unclog pores Use: PM
